While doing some shop talk today, this question arose. "When does a church with great potential become a church of great action?" That is the 64 million dollar question! Some churches have great potential, but are not exploiting it. Potential!
The dictionary defines potential as...1. possible, as opposed to actual 2. capable of being or becoming.
Hmmmm! Possible - as opposed to actual! So a church has the potential to reach many people. ABC has an abundance of potential when it comes to the unchurched. They are abundant in our area. But to the degree that we have the potential for reaching them - it is simply possible - not actual! Or, we are capable of reaching people - but not in fact reaching them!
Just using that one as an example. To say a church has great potential sounds good! At least at first. But the reality before any church is that the more potential you have - the less you are actually accomplishing. Potential is the possibility - not the reality. The more potential you have - the less reality you have.
So, when does potential transform to action? Only when we trust and obey Jesus Christ!
