In doing a little reading this morning, I ran across a very interesting and very true matter related to the church. The matter is regarding how we in the church view ourselves. We tend to view ourselves as "ordinary" Christians.
Ordinary Christians don't share their faith, don't do much in the way of giving, don't get too involved in outreach activities, don't get too involved in Bible reading or prayer! As a matter of fact, ordinary Christians don't get too broken up over whether or not they even show up once a week!
Extraordinary Christians, on the other hand, are the ones who share their faith, give a tithe, get involved in outreach activities, get involved in Bible reading and prayer. And you can count on them to show up!
Mark Mittelberg, in Building a Contagious Church, says that he doesn't know how the term "ordinary" ever came to be associated with Christians. But, somehow it has. "Ordinary" Christians are viewed by many as the "way it is!" And "ordinary" Christians view someone who openly loves Jesus and shares their faith and is forgiving and helpful etc. as "extraordinary!"
To sum it up - what many may see as "extraordinary" in the church - should be the "ordinary!" Following and obeying Jesus - and making Him known - is the ordinary work of a believer! May we all be so "extraordinary" that "extraordinary" is the new "ordinary!" Ok - I have to quit because I can't type that again!
