The first time I led someone to the Lord was an experience I will never forget. It was not the first time I had witnessed to someone, but it was the first time that I led them all the way to the point at which they received Christ as their Savior.
I was in the 7th grade and the local Methodist Church offered a Lay Evangelism School. We attended this on a Friday evening and Saturday morning. People from all denominations attended. I was partnered with a high school senior from the church where I was a member, FBC Pontotoc! Somebody had to be able to drive!
On the Saturday afternoon, we were given assignments of people that someone believed needed Jesus. I'm not sure how these "prospects" were known - I was in the 7th grade. Knowing what I know now, it is obvious that this ecumenical effort had expended quite a bit of preparation for this lay evangelism school.
We went to our assignment - a young couple living in an apartment. They had not been married very long and were probably about 21 years old. I was supposed to lead in this visit! I began to share from the material and outline we had learned in the training, and I got to see the power of the Holy Spirit!
They both became shaken, then tearful, then broken! They both prayed and received Jesus as their Savior! There is no doubt that God did it all - in spite of me! My presentation was clear enough - but I was nervous and I was trying to remember the presentation. You can kind of imagine how it must have sounded somewhat scripted!
But God can use anyone and that day I had the joy of Him using me! I could not contain myself the rest of that day! I told everyone I could find about the amazing way God touched the couple!
I pray we never get over seeing people trust Jesus - and that the joy of being involved would inspire us to regularly share the good news of the Gospel with everyone around us!
